Panic can be a really frightening episode, and without treatment the fear of simply having another Panic attack can be debilitating.
Below are some tips that can help reduce or stop a panic attack. At the very least it should lessen your panic attacks.
1 Visit your medical doctor. Find out about the options that they will give you. Do not just readily accept what say is the answer, do your research about medicine and panic attacks. Does it cure the root problem of why you get your panic attacks? Or is it just a suppressant of the symptoms of panic attacks?
2 Really research everything you can about anxiety and panic, become knowledgeable about it. Just by knowing how and why your body reacts to panic attacks will help you cope better. There are many excellent resources worth researching. The more you know, the less power anxiety and panic will have over your life.
3 It has been recommended that you should avoid sugar and caffeine, but I am not convinced about it. Your own research about Panic attacks should arm you with the knowledge so that you can make your own mind up.
4 Learn how to do Stomach Breathing. When in a state of Anxiety and Panic, you tend are not breathing correctly. Your breathing is high in the chest. Practice the following - Breathe in deeply through the nose, hold a second then breathe out of the mouth slowly, then hold a second, then repeat. Keep doing this for a few minutes. The key is to relax while doing this so that you train your mind and body to relax and release panic and stress, rather than have panic attacks.
5 Exercise. Choose an exercise or exercise routine that you will enjoy and will do consistently. It might be walking, going to a spinning class, or yoga. Whatever it is,
make sure it is something you will do, because it will reduces stress and that will help you with Anxiety and Panic attacks. Less stress means less tension in your body, therefore, less panic. It is good to do both cardio exercises which increases your heart rate and works up a good sweat, along with more balance and flexibility exercises such as yoga. Yoga also works on the mind side, which is great for Panic attacks.
6 Meditate. This doesn't have to be sitting in a lotus position, it can be walking first thing in the morning and getting into a state of bliss or relaxation while walking in nauture. I like the Silva method, just because it is an active meditation, where you are not just zoning out, but going into a deeper level of mind to achieve something.
7 Understanding. We all make mistakes and will probably go backwards sometimes. Rather than be overly hard on yourself, just accept you messed up and then move on. Focus on what you want daily, keep a journal of your ideal lifestyle, then daily spend time in your imagination living there. Pretty soon it will become reality.
